When laying woven and tufted carpets, it is important to use the correct tools and equipment. These may vary depending on the particular substrate, the type and place of use, and the purpose of the floor covering. It is also important to observe the direction when laying carpets on stairs or landings. The same applies when a number of carpet sheets are being laid in the same area. As a general rule, the appropriate tools must be used when laying carpet.
The pile material of Vorwerk carpeting is made of polyamide (PA), which is used either as PA 6 or PA 6.6. Polyamide is the most widely used synthetic fibre on the carpet market. Well-known brand names of these fibres are Nylon or Perlon. The carrier material onto which the pile material is tufted is either polypropylene or polyester fabric, or else spunbond web (PET/PES or PP). The backing of Vorwerk carpets is made of the synthetic fibres polypropylene and polyester (PET/PES or PP). Some of the PET components are recycled fibres from bottle flakes (PET drinks bottles).
The earlier a stain is treated, the more likely it is to be removed completely. However, even with instant treatment, it is not always possible to remove every trace of a stain (for instance coffee, red wine, tea, mustard, toner etc.). In most cases, stains can be removed with lukewarm water and a non-staining cloth (white cotton or microfibre cloth). Do not rub, but “twist” the stain out, working from the outside in. If using any cleaning agents, test them first on an inconspicuous spot or on a remnant in order to avoid damaging the pile or colour. A specialist retailer will have suitable cleaning and stain removal products. Please do not use WC or window cleaning products. Be sure to remove all traces of cleaning agents from the carpet after cleaning, as otherwise they will continue to bind dirt and the treated area will quickly become dirty again. You will also find further information on removing stains in our Recommendations for carpet care & upkeep.
No, it is not possible at the moment to purchase our carpets from us online. However, we do offer you the option of contacting our retail partner in your area. You will find further information on our partners in our list of retailers.
Carpet sheets usually come as a roll, and will be delivered to outside your home by a forwarding agent. Carpet tiles come in boxes of 5 m², and can only be ordered in complete packaging units. Larger quantities of boxes will be delivered on a disposable pallet, and again delivered to outside your home by a forwarding agent.
Vorwerk flooring does not offer a direct laying service. The specialist company where you purchase your carpet will usually also be able to lay your carpet flooring or tiles. Specialist companies include, for instance, decorating companies, interior decorators and flooring and laying companies. When purchasing a carpet through the Internet, find a suitable laying company first that will lay your carpeting for you professionally once it has arrived.
Your retailer will be pleased to provide serged rugs and carpet skirtings in your desired dimensions. Vorwerk’s flooring range also includes a wide selection of borders for rugs.
As the adhesive should always match the intended purpose and local conditions, as well as the condition of the substrate, it is not possible to give a single answer here. You will find further information on adhesives in our laying recommendations.
In Germany, carpet adhesives must have EC1 approval (building approval for harmful emissions in living and other rooms; the “Blue Angel” signet, for instance, is issued with an EC1 rating). A number of adhesives with EC1+ certification are available, and their emissions are significantly lower than the legal specifications.
Used carpets can usually be disposed of free of charge at your local recycling centre. There are also a number of collection services in the UK that will take them, although there may be a charge in some cases.
Carpet adhesive can usually be removed from the substrate with low surface tension water and then disposed of, although this is not always the case. Please always follow the manufacturer’s user instructions.
If any carpet adhesive ends up on the carpet, it can usually be removed. Drops of adhesive can be left on the carpet until touch dry. Ideally, it will then be possible simply to pull it off the carpet in one piece. If any adhesive is trodden into the carpet, absorb it with a clean, moist cloth while wet (do not use any carpet scraps to wipe it off as this will only smear the adhesive over a larger area, which will encourage further dirt to settle). In both cases, finish by wiping the affected areas with a clean cloth moistened with white spirit.
Our Recommendations for carpet care & upkeep contain further information on stain removal.
This value measures the dust absorption on the highest suction setting on a defined test carpet. It is rated in classes from A to G. A vacuum cleaner rated carpet cleaning performance class A has to be able to suck up 91% of the dust from the carpet. The dust absorption for each classification reduces by 4%, which means that a class C vacuum cleaner will only reliably absorb 83% of the dust, and a class G less than 71%.
Textile floor covering has many advantages over hard flooring. The acoustic properties of carpeting improve the overall room acoustics. A textile floor absorbs all kinds of noises, including impact sound, much better than hard flooring, and also – unlike the latter – does not reflect it. Another advantage is that carpet absorbs fine dust. This reduces the amount of dust particles in the air, which is why textile floors are also ideal for allergy-sufferers.
Responsibility towards customers, staff and the location is the essence of the long-lived programme at Vorwerk flooring. It includes protecting the natural resources, environmentally and energy-friendly products and production methods as well as social responsibility. We sum up this concept under the term “Vorwerk Life Balance”. In order to achieve the maximum transparency, we regularly undergo voluntary checks by independent test institutes that go far beyond those required by the law. The result: Vorwerk floor coverings currently bear all the main ecological product labels, numerous internationally renowned signets such as HQE, Green Label Plus, Greenguard, Blue Angel, and social and health-relevant certificates. You can find out more about the concept Vorwerk Life Balance and all its activities and visions in our environmental statement.
Yes; thanks to their particulate-binding properties, our carpets are ideal for allergy-sufferers. Vorwerk was the first carpet manufacturer to have its floor coverings tested by the TÜV Nord for allergenic substances, and they instantly passed all these tests. In 1996 Vorwerk Teppichwerke was the first company to receive the TÜV seal “Suitable for allergy-sufferers”. Since then, all our products have been regularly tested for allergenic substances.
It is also a fact that rooms with smooth floors contain twice the quantity of fine dust particles as rooms with carpets do. This has been confirmed in a study that was carried out by the German Allergy and Asthma Association (DAAB) and the Association for Environmental and Interior Analytics (GUI). The fine quality fibres of Vorwerk carpeting bind the dust and greatly reduce the rising up and swirling around of fine dust particles.
First of all, you have to prepare the substrate of the area where you will be laying the tiles. Then you have to determine the room and area axes. After that, you apply an adhesive to the area and lay the tiles along the defined room axes, starting from the middle. It is important to place the rows of tiles close together and to observe the direction of laying if this has been specified. You will also find further information on this topic in our laying recommendations.
Carpet tiles are similar to bathroom tiles, and like ceramic tiles are laid beside each other. This means that individual tiles can be lifted later on, which is especially useful if any tiles are dirty (individual tiles can be replaced) and, for instance, when relocating an office (change cable routes).
The best way to regularly remove dust from carpet flooring is with a vacuum cleaner with electrically powered brush rollers. Because they are fitted with these brush rollers, Vorwerk vacuum cleaners are ideal for this purpose. Please always observe the information on the settings for your particular model.
Textile floor coverings noticeably increase the living comfort, quality of life, improve the acoustics, and are proven to be good for the body. The many advantages that carpeting offers make it a veritable multi-talent for almost any living area.
With floor coverings for living areas, it is particularly important that no harmful substances are released either during the production process or once they are in use. All Vorwerk carpets are tested by the Textiles & Flooring Institute GmbH (TFI) and given the renowned GuT signet. This means that all Vorwerk carpets are “green” – regardless of their colour in real life.
Yes, because they are specially constructed from several layers, so Vorwerk carpets are particularly springy, which is kind to the joints. Even if you are standing for a long time, the soft fibre layer ensures that your body weight is distributed optimally over the area of your feet, which is much kinder on the joints.
Rooms with modern interiors tend to have lots of sound-reflecting surfaces, and these have a negative impact on the room acoustics. Textile floor coverings are an effective solution for this problem because they absorb sound.
Please contact one of our local agents in the list of intertnational contacts and ask him for the nearest dealer.
Please talk to our specialist retailers about laying the carpets. They often perform this task themselves, or else can recommend a local company for it.
Vorwerk flooring generally offers tufted carpeting in a width of 400 cm. However, many of our items are also available in a width of 500 cm. We can also provide special widths on request and for a surcharge.
